Come for the plants. Stay for the books.

About

I’m a fifty-something reader and gardener. I enjoy science fiction, fantasy, but read lots of contemporary literary fiction, too. As I’ve grown older, I started to enjoy spending time in my garden. I’m not very good, but I figure if I keep planting stuff, it will eventually all come together.

As I’ve grown older, my reading habits have changed, but one thing that hasn’t is that there are so many books and not enough time. I’m always looking for new and interesting reads, despite finding more new books each month than I read in a month. It’s unsustainable, and I’ll never read everything I want to, but you have to try, right?

Gardening is much the same. Whatever I do in life, I’m always interested in new things, new ideas. It makes me a book magpie and a plant magpie too. I can’t read an article or watch an episode of Gardeners’ World (a rediscovery in 2026), without finding new plant inspiration.

Over the next few years, hopefully you’ll see me cram in as many plants and as many reads as possible. You can chart the garden’s progress through my regular #SixOnSaturday posts. I try to review as many books as I can, but inevitably fall behind – the complete list is here or you can find me on Storygraph.
