On my morning (doom)scroll on Bluesky, I came across a post by Cathy J from What Cathy Read Next.

Buds and blooms feature in my #6onSaturday #gardens #gardening #Gardeningfeed #flowers

Six on Saturday is an idea that’s been going around a while and involves posting six pictures of the garden on, yes, you’ve guessed it, a Saturday. Not sure this will become a weekly thing for me, but the sun is shining, a rarity in 2026, so I thought I’d take some picutures. Not that there’s a great deal out there to take pictures of right now.

Six on Saturday is curated by Jim at garden ruminations and you can find the participation guidelines here. Hopefully, I won’t stuff it up!

1. Some iris reticulata, with a sneaky tulip from the bulb lasagne growing in there too. First time I’ve tried different bulb types in a pot. I’ll interested to see how it goes.

2. My miniature cherry that I bought a few years ago about to burst into bloom

A picture of a primrose

3. There are a few primroses dotted around the garden. A sure sign that spring is coming.

A picture of a leggy Cobaea Scandens seedling.

4. Last year, I got lots of ideas from Sarah Raven’s, A Year Full of Pots, this year is the year I get to see all those ideas crash and burn.

Raven suggested sowing cobaea scandens (cup and saucer plant) in January to give it maximum time to grow as big as it can during the summer. I planted 8 seeds at the begninning of the year, and only seem to have one plant to show for it. Trying to decide whether to sow the remaining seeds or just leave them until next year. (In the background you can see a salvia cutting I have been overwintering.)

Last year I split out a little of my oxalis triangularis to see if it would propogate on. Looks like the answer was yes! For now at least.

Plants on a conservatory shelf

6. This pitcure was is across the view of my conservatory windowill because I thought I’d taken more pictures outside than I actually had.

I’m not all that good with indoor plants but here are a couple that I’ve managed not only to keep alive but also looking reasonable throughout the winter!

That’s it! A fun excercise that I hope to return to. The garden is looking to burst to life in the coming weeks, so hopefully I’ll have a few more things to photograph soon.

Lovely pictures, Robin and welcome to the 6ers. Plus thanks for reminding me I haven’t yet linked up my post!

I did different bulb types in pots, with the idea that something would be blooming from early spring to October. It worked pretty well last year, though the autumn crocus didn’t flower as well as I would have liked. The regular spring crocuses seem to really like the mixed pots, though. It will be interesting to see how your combination works!

I’ve not tried crocuses in pots yet. I’ll have to give that a go next year. I have a few in the lawn, but I think the grass is too strong from them, so there’s never much of a repeat showing.

Welcome to “Six on Saturday”! I didn’t participate this week, but it’s definitely one of my favorite memes. You have some beauties there–I’ll look forward to more posts about your miniature Cherry. I’m a huge fan of Oxalis plants, and I have a few shoots of O. triangularis. . O. vulcanicola ‘Zinfandel’ is another favorite. I’m impressed with your overwintered indoor plants. Enjoy the sunshine!

I like oxalis too. Though I only have a couple of different varieties. The other one I bought cheap in a garden centre as it was going out of season. It’s just started reshooting, so if it looks any good I’ll included it in a future post.

Welcome, glad to have you join us! Spring is coming so its getting easier to find 6 for each Saturday now. Your little Prunus certainly is ready to burst into bloom, is it Kojo no mai? Lovely to see your primroses, we will soon have lots of them here.

Unfortunately, I can’t remember what variety of cherry it is. I’m terrible at garden admin. I buy and plant what I like and then immmediately forget what they were! I’m trying to develop more of plan but I am somewhat haphazard!
