Another tough week in the garden. The slugs have been out in force and chomping through all manner of plants and flowers. This was annoying enough when they ate flowers I’d bought from the garden centre. This year I have stuff grown from seed, things I’d painstakingly over wintered overwintered or grown from cuttings, so the stakes feel so much higher.
Not much to show off this week, but here are six quick pics.

1. Towards the bottom of the garden, I have this campanula cascading down a small wall. It never ceases to cheer.
2. Not far from the campanula is what I think is a sulphur cinquefoil. I tried to turn this part of the garden into a wildflower bed a few years ago. It was a bit of a failure, but this one keeps returning. I’ve had to tie it back this year to stop it swamping a sea holly that is planted next to it. That’s just coming into bloom, so expect pics next week!
3. I love nemesia, so have a few different colour varieties here and there. Purple and yellow always looks great.

5. My wife loves this candy cane verbena. We tried some last year and this year’s are even better. The aforementioned pesky slugs do like to give them a chomp though.
6. The first flush of flowers on this clematis are coming to an end, but the second is just beginning. I think they’re at their best just before the flowers fully open. The curl on the leaves is very pleasing. If memory serves it was clematis Duchess of Cornwall.
