I’ve been busy this week, so not too much gardening done, but I’ve had a few happy evenings filled with soft, end-of-day sunshine to fully appreciate the garden.

1. Second flush of flowers on this clematis. The original run was a bit disappointing, with the petals slightly malformed. Possibly something to do with the heat, but this second run are lovely.

2. Another clematis. This one I bought at the beginning of the summer. I wanted it to soften the edge of our garden room. I’ve had to keep it very well watered but it’s responded much better than I expected and is looking lovely.

3. You can just about see that clematis in this photo. I’m not sure the picture really does it justice, but this angle of the garden is looking lovely at the moment, especially when soaked in the evening sun. (I’ve just realised I included almost exactly this photo last week. Oh well.)

4. I have a forgotten patch of Japanese anenomes whch have slowly colonised the flower bed under the eucalyptus, behind my acanthus. They’ve come up quietly and are looking lovely.

5. When I moved into the house twenty years ago, there was a patch of crocosmia on the other side of the eucaplyptus. It’s never really done anything and over the years, I’ve removed bits of it. Last autumn, I dug it all out but at the last minute shoved a few corms back in the ground. This one stands all on its own and is flowering nicely. (Behind are some seedlings of Honesty “Chedglow,” that I’m hoping will look good next year.)

6. Inside the conservatory, we have a few airplants, which get to sit centre stage in there while its winter residents enjoy being outside. I noticed this week, that one of them has started to flower. It’s a gorgeous orangey red colour.
