Just a quick Six this week, partly because I’m short of time and partly because there’s not much doing in the garden at the moment that hasn’t featured in a previous 6. Memo to self, try to find some late summer interest for the next year!

Be warned, my final picture of this week’s 6 is a spider.

1. Photo of the week is this comma butterfly on my lantana cordyline combo that featured last week. I don’t get as many butterflies to the garden, mainly whites, so I was very happy to a snap of this.

2. An echeveria in a teacup. I picked this up from the bargain bin at my local garden centre at the end of winter. It was mangy looking when I bought it, but it’s right as rain now (whatever rain is), and I’m feeling very pleased with myself.

3. Just below the echeveria (you can see the cup in shot) is a Gynura aurantiaca I bought a few years ago. It too was looking mangy at the end of winter. I was fearing for its life when I first put it outside. Not sure if I was overwatering it? The colour is a bit washed out in the photo, but now it’s looking lovely, with the orange a vibrant counterpoint to the purple-tinged leaves.

4. Directly below both of those plants is a seedling I rescued early in the summer. I have mostly forgotten about it, and almost never watered it, and yet we have a flower!

5. I bought a pack of marjoram seeds at the beginning of the year, attracted like a pollinator to the fact they attract pollinators. These aren’t them. It was only when my seeds grew and started flowering that I realised that this plant I’ve had in the garden for about 5 years is also marjoram. Well, if it’s not it looks very very similar.

6. Not much else doing this week, but I have noticed that while the weather is still dry, the nights are drawing in and cooling down. The light has taken on a softer hue, which tells me autumn is coming. This guy agrees. The first I have seen heralding a change in the seasons.
