We’ve had some rain and a cold night this week. Not low enough temperatures to concern the tender plants, though. The first phase of bringing everything into the conservatory is complete. I’ve now moved on to worrying about how I’m going to fit everything else in. Not least of which is my agave, which has grown a lot in last 6 months since it went outside. It has wicked spikes on it to catch the unwary. I’ll need to be very careful with where it winters.

I’m keeping it simple this week, with 6 flowers that are still going strong in the garden.

SixOnSaturday is curated by Jim at Garden Ruminations, and you can find the participation guidelines here.

A burgundy dahlia flower

1. My experiment with dahlias this year has not been a total failure. I’ve learned that I can’t put them at the end of the garden. This one in a pot now has a single flower. My first and only dahlia flower so far. There are a few more buds close behind, so fingers crossed they come out before any cold weather.

The rest will be dug up soon, ready to be planted somewhere sunnier next year.

A white pelargaonium flower

2. This white pelargonium is a standout of my summer pots. I’m hoping I can dig up the plant and bring it inside at some point.

A bright red begonia

3. My youngest son chose this begonia on our May trip to the garden centre. It’s an amazing red colour with deep purple leaves. It was looking very impressive in the rain. This is alone in a small pot, so it will be easy to store over winter.

A bright red lantana with orange flecks

4. This lantana is new to me this year. It’s in quite a big pot with a cordaline. I’m intending to keep it warm over the winter too.

 a white cosmos purity

5. A few of my cosmos plants are still going. After coming through very slowly, the main flowers I have left are the white “purity.”

A slightly tired Gazinia

6. I bought the gazinia on whim but they pot I made up with them has looked great from July onwards. The latest flush of flowers are a little tired now, but still worth a photo. I’ve just noticed that the gardener’s foot is also in shot.

That’s it for this week. See you next time, and thanks for looking at my #SixonSaturday

You’re right to keep the lantana and overwinter it indoors. I’ve done it successfully before—and actually, now is the right time to take stem cuttings, once the flowers have faded.

I have a few other lantanas that I’ve succesully overwintered. I’ve never tried to take cuttings, though. Maybe I should try them that this year. 🤔

That white pelargonium is a beauty and I’m glad to see one of your dahlias has made it to flowerhood.
